At Balance Within Psychological Services, we believe growth happens when people feel truly seen, supported, and understood.
Co-founded by Drs. Megan Derisse and Kristen Tobias, two licensed psychologists who have collaborated professionally for several years, our practice reflects a shared vision of providing compassionate, evidence-based care that helps people find a greater sense of balance and well-being in their lives.
A central theme in our work is equanimity, a state of calm, stability, and inner strength even in the face of life’s challenges. This idea, together with the balance between acceptance and change that Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) emphasizes, inspired the name of our practice: Balance Within.
We offer Individual, Couples, and Group Therapy via virtual sessions. We specialize in DBT and Mindfulness-Based Interventions (e.g., Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Mindful Self-Compassion). We utilize these core approaches, while infusing additional evidence-based interventions to support patients as they work towards achieving goals, exploring aspects of acceptance and change, strengthening emotional regulation skills, building resilience, and enhancing a deeper sense of meaning and purpose in life.

We believe our clients are the experts of their own lived experiences, and we work alongside them, combining their wisdom with our clinical knowledge to guide insight and help them move toward their goals. Therapy at Balance Within is tailored to each individual’s specific needs, so they feel supported in ways that are most meaningful to them. We recognize that well-being and experiences of trauma are influenced by a wide range of factors that can be personal, intergenerational, and systemic. For some individuals, chronic stress or trauma may lead to fear, anger, hopelessness, and difficulty managing emotions or making sense of the world. Trauma can also affect how we connect to ourselves and with others. We are committed to fostering an environment that supports individuals impacted by oppressive conditions contributing to psychological harm.
